Miss McMurray, a current student at WSU, applied to college and scholarships not too long ago. She bestows her insight and knowledge about finding and applying for those things called scholarships.
Q: When do you suggest that students start to apply for scholarships?
A: As soon as possible; when high school students are applying for college, they should be applying for scholarships as well.
Q: What is the difference between financial aid and scholarships?
A: Scholarships are like free money - you don't have to eventually pay them back, like you do with financial aid loans and grants.
Q: Where do you suggest that students find out about scholarship opportunities?
A: Well, high school counselors are a great place to find out about scholarships, along with college websites, high school career centers, and through internet search engines, such as Google.
Q: Any parting thoughts?
A: Scholarships are very important. Again, they're just free money basically. And don't pass one up just because it's for $100 or $500 - every one counts. Trust me, they add up fast. Also, don't take them for granted. You should work hard to keep them, because they can disappear fast - just one mistake and they're gone.
